Gunung Kawi Rocky Temple

Gunung Kawi is a Hindu Temple complex with old omission from the stone era located in Gianyar regency. Based on the inscription of Tengkulak A on 945 saka (Balinese calendar) which is released by Marakata King, the ancient omission complex is located at the Pekerisan River then it is called Katyangan Amarawati. Pekerisan River is also named by Jalu which is according to the inscription chiseled on the above of the biggest temple door sound ‘Haji Lumahing Jalu’. The name of Gunung Kawi is the name given on the omission which is related to the complex of temples because the temple on this area is like the symbol from the mount. There are 3 temples which so called the name as Gunung Kawi in Bali those are Gunung Kawi in Sebatu countryside, Gunung Kawi Temple in Keliki countryside and Gunung Kawi Temple in Babitra countryside. The ancient omission complex of Gunung Kawi is founded on 10 century. It is founded in the era of Udayana about 989 M. At the period of Marakata governance on 1023, the omission which is called Katyagan Amarawati is developed and continued by the governance of Anak Wungsu which is guess lead between the years of 1049 – 1077 M.

Temple complex is consisted of 2 consecutions. The consecution in eastside Pekerisan River is consisted of 5 units and the consecution at west side of river is 5 units, in the north is 4 units and 1 unit is located far in south side separate from the others. On the above of the temple consecution in particular to the Eastside River, there is an article of Kediri word type sounding ‘Haji Lumahing Jalu’. Haji means a king, the Lumah means a temple or Sidha Dewata means to return to the nature of deity and Ing Jalu means in Pekerisan. The Jalu mean the Keris literal. The entire words mean that king is made in temple form at Pekerisan. From this article is assumed that this temple is dedicated to Udayana King which is also called Marakata and Anak Wungsu. The temple which is located in the west side of river related to all king concubines. The temples are located far in the south side is attributed to prime minister because in these temple areas existing an article Rakyan which is namely perform for high functionary of empire. And Buddhist Temple Complex is used as a residence and as place for meditation. It is consisted of some nooks and it is located in the cross east of Pakerisan River. Other nooks are located spread out and near the temple bunch.

Rambut Siwi Temple


Rambut Siwi Temple is one of big temple in  Bali located in Yeh Embang Kangin countryside, Mendoyo district and Jembrana regency. It is about 2.5 hours drives from Denpasar town go to the west part of Bali or 45 minutes drive from Negara town. Rambut Siwi Temple is daily taken care by a group of community which is called ‘Pangempon’ come from Pekutatan district. Rambut Siwi Temple is one of the biggest Hindu Temples in Bali located in Negara regency, west part of Bali. It is a beautiful Hindu shrine set in the cliff bank with wide Indian Ocean just in front of the temple.  

Rambut Siwi has been renovated and moved to the top of hill for better location of worshiping to the god. Rambut Siwi Temple or local people call Pura Rambut Siwi is supported by the local resident including the maintenance, ceremony and other activities.The local believe that every temple in Bali keep secret of holy including Rambut Siwi Temple. Rambut Siwi owns the representative temple building which is set beside of main road from Denpasar to Gilimanuk. We can see all cars driven by local Hindu people will stop for a while in this temple for worshiping to get the god bless of securing during the journey.

It is the same local people do at other temples in Bali like Goa Lawah and Pulaki Temple. The main temple located in cliff bank and blessed by the breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean. From the top of the cliff, we can see the old temple building on the ground and just in front of the ocean. Meanwhile the beautiful panorama of the blue Indian Ocean will add the impression of your experience. It is opened for tourist destination in west part of Bali and the right place to visit during your vacation in this island.

Puncak Penulisan Temple


Puncak Penulisan Temple is located In Bangli Regency around 3 km from Kintamani and 30 from Bangli town. Puncak Penulisan Temple is situated on summit of Penulisan Mountain, 1745 m above sea level, making it the higest temple in Bali with 336 steps to climb before reacheing the temple. Puncak Penulisan Temple that is also known as Tegeh Koripan Temple, dates back to 9th century AD.  

Puncak Penulisan Temple consists of 11 terraces and the first of five temple complex, the other temples are Panarajon Temple, Ratu Penyarikan Temple, Ratu Temple, Daha Tua Temple and Taman Danu Temple. The striking features of this temple are the bales housing the ancient stone statues and lingga dating from the 11th-13th centuries, one of which is of Queen Mahendratta.

Pulaki Temple


Pulaki Temple lies in Pulaki Village, Seririt Sub District, Singaraja Regency, north part of Bali. It is just 3 hours drive from Bali’s International Airport or 1 hour drive from Singaraja town. It is strategically set in the main road from Singaraja to Gilimanuk with the group of monkeys as the identity for the traveler who wants to visit this temple. Pulaki Temple or Pura Pulaki is a Hindu shrine located in the hill bank and in front of the beautiful beach in north part of Bali. It is one of the biggest Hindu temples in Bali situated in the coastal side west part of Singaraja town or 1 hour drive to the west from the town.

Pulaki Temple is set on the flat land with stone hill bank as a back drop meanwhile the blue ocean is just in front of the temple. Pulaki Temple is a famous temple among the Hindu people in Bali located in Singaraja regency, north part of Bali. There are the group of monkeys dwell the hill forest around the temple and it usually standing around the temple in the day time. The beautiful beach with black sand and calm seawater is one of the fascinations to visitor to come to this temple. We can find the beautiful hill bank and beaches along the coastal road.

Ponjok Batu Temple


Ponjok Batu Temple is a stone temple where all temple buildings are made from stone. It is located Banjar Alasari, Pacung countryside, Tejakula sub district and Singaraja regency about 24 km eastside of Singaraja town or north part of Bali. This temple area own the wide area about 35 acre in form of black stones bank. The position of this temple is rather sticking out to the sea as a foreland or Ponjok. Base on the position and condition then this place is named by Ponjok Batu so that the temple is standing above foreland petrify and it is referred as Ponjok Batu Temple.

In papyrus of Dwijendra Tattwa elaborate that Danghyang Nirartha (who one spread out the Hinduism in Bali) besides executing Tirtha Yatra (visit the holy places) in Bali area, he also do at Lombok and Sumbawa Island .When he does the tirta yatra in Lombok and Sumbawa Island , he leave in Bali passing the north area of Bali and then it is named by Denbukit. Hereinafter narrated that Danghyang Nirartha found the lodging that is located in coastal periphery with its stone bank and steep rather sordid to sea in the form of a foreland which is called Ponjok.

After omitting a few moments in the lodging then he go to Lombok and Sumbawa Island to conduct the Tirtha Yatra. At the end, the Pesraman/lodging of Danghyang Nirartha is built an altar named with Ponjok Batu Temple which has been existing since 16 century. It is founded together with the execution of Danghyang Nirartha journey in north part of Bali.

Penataran Sasih Temple


Penataran Sasih Temple is an old temple as a center of Pejeng Kingdom. It called Penataran sasih because inside the temple there is a big kettle-drum which by the local people called as moon (sasih). The kettle-drum itself was came from the year of 300M which is sacred by the people as a holy thing so that the special place was made to put this. This kettle-drum is like the hip of beautiful girl, with 2m length and made from pure silver with no extension piece, is the largest kettle-drum in the world. The scratch symbolizes 8 faces, and the cover is decorated with stars and circles design.

Pancering Jagat Temple


Pancering Jagat Temple is located in Trunyan village, Kintamani. The temple’s name is taken from Arca da Tonta or Ratu Gede Pusering Jagat, a megalithic 4-meter high statue. The ceremony in this temple is usually held on Purnamaning Sasih Kapat around October. Barong Brutuk dance is performed on the ceremony to commemorate the legendary wedding anniversary of Ratu Sakti Pancering Jagat ; the guardian of the village and Ratu Ayu Dalem Pingit (Ratu Ayu Dalem Dasar).  This dance can only be performed by adolescent boys (Sekeha Teruna) of that village. The boys, together with the village elders, must fulfill certain requirements such as be successful in holiness ceremony for 42 days in Pancering Jagat Temple with certain offerings.
